Bismarck High School Team Policy, 2009-10 Season
In order to remain eligible for the swim season, you must strictly adhere to the following team policies. Please take time to go over these so that both parents and swimmers understand them. You also need to turn the last page signed to the Head Coach.
Eligibility: - Minimum requirements
All eligibility requirements for participation by
the NDHSAA and
- Other requirements
1. All athletes must complete a minimum of 9 practices prior to being allowed to compete. In addition, activity fees and a current physical must be submitted.
2. Prior to or during the course of the season all athletes are required to complete 2 hours of community service work.
3. A 1-2 meet suspension may result from inappropriate behavior not specifically covered under Bismarck Public School Policy or other team policy.
Attendance:
Regular practice and competition attendance is essential to development of a winning team and the success of each individual athlete. As coaches we commit 14 weeks of our time to help our athletes grow improve- we expect no less commitment from our athletes. All athletes are important to the team and absence by any athlete from competition hurts the team as a whole.
Attendance at all practices and competitions are mandatory. Varsity designated athletes will be required to attend both morning and afternoon practices. JV designated athletes will be required to attend afternoon practices only with some mornings (date tba). Excused absence from competition will be allowed only under the following circumstances: - conflict with another school activity
- illness
- family emergency
Excused absence for other school activities will be allowed only with 1 week written notice to the Head Coach. If not given a week notice, the coaches will suspend the athlete for 1 meet.
Athletes must be in attendance in school the day of and in practice the day prior to a competition.
Athletes not meeting these criteria will not be allowed to compete at that competition.
Riding the
bus:
Every participant must travel to and from all competitions by bus. A parent may take their swimmer(s) home only with a written notice from the parent. Bus trips are essential but should be also fun for the athletes. While on bus all athletes will be expected to act like gentlemen and in an orderly manner.
Dress Code:
Casual pants (no jeans), shirt and tie for all bus trips and day of meets.
We will be traveling regularly in winter conditions. All athletes and coaches are expected to dress appropriately for winter travel including hat, gloves, and a proper winter coat. Athletes showing up for bus trips without appropriate apparel as outlined will not be allowed on the bus.
Conduct:
At all times our athletes represent themselves, BHS, and their coaches- that said members of the team are expected to always act respectful, orderly, and polite both during and outside of team activities. Any team member whose actions are not conducive to team cohesiveness or is apt to disrupt the normal progress of practices or competition will be disciplined by reprimand, suspension, or removal.
Curfews:
Athletes need to rest as hard as they train. With
only a 14 week season we will be pushing a lot of work and training into
that short span of time. It will be expected and normal to be tired
throughout the season. With demands beyond swimming including school
work and family responsibilities sleep is not optional but mandatory to
be able to perform at a high level. All athletes should respect a curfew
of
When on outside trips, cell phones will be turned
off no later than
Varsity

-
Athletes who are suspended due to training
violations
